(MLB) Blue Jay star pitcher Roy Halladay, who played 12 seasons with Toronto, died yesterday after his plane crashed into the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Florida. He was 40. The Pasco county sheriff’s office confirmed that Halladay was the only one on the aircraft. They did not say where the plane was headed but did confirm that no mayday call was made to Tampa Air Traffic Control. In 12 years with the Blue Jays, Halladay amassed a 148-76 record with a 3.43 ERA and in 2003 when he led the American League with 22 wins and a 3.25 ERA he won the Cy Young Award. In other baseball news Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Marcus Stroman is a Gold Glove winner for the first time in his career. Stroman beat out Boston left-hander Chris Sale and Tampa Bay’s Alex Cobb in the American League pitcher category.
(NBA) The Toronto Raptors hung on to beat the Chicago Bulls’ 119-114 last night at the ACC. DeMar DeRozan led the Raps with 24 points while Jonas Valanciunas (val-in-chewniss) chipped in with 21 including just the second three-point shot of his NBA career.
(NHL) Last night in the NHL, the Montreal Canadiens won their 3rd straight game edging the Vegas Golden Knights 3-2, Edmonton needed overtime for a 2-1 win over the Islanders while Vancouver skated to a 5-3 win over Calgary.
