I.F. Library celebrates “Loud for Libraries”, highlighting changes over the years

There are two big reasons for the Iroquois Falls Public Library to celebrate all month.

October is Canadian Library Month. Ontario Public Library week is the 18th to 24th of the month.

Assistant librarian Haley Montreuil says a wide range of activities will show off what the library does; bring out some new ideas, events and programs; and demonstrate how different modern libraries are.

For instance, the theme is “Loud for Libraries”.

“We still have quiet spaces,” Montreuil points out. “We make sure people are respectful of everyone, but it’s not all whispers and shushes anymore.”

Picking out highlights, Montreuil says there’s a Halloween colouring contest. And there’s a storybook contest for ages four to eight, nine to 12, and 13 to 18.

“Everyone’s encouraged to kind of write and illustrate their own original storybook for the chance to have it bound and made into a proper book and have a copy added to our shelves here at the library.”

A full schedule of events and competitions is available at the library and on its Facebook page.
