Cochrane Minor Hockey re-establishes a team at the U18 level

After a 13-year absence, Cochrane Minor Hockey has a U18A team. The Chargers are playing in the Timmins league that includes three teams from Timmins and one each from Iroquois Falls and Hearst.

Minor hockey president Lorrie O’Connor says since 2013, Cochrane players have mostly played for the I.F. Stingers.  Over the last couple years, inquiries about a Cochrane team have increased.

“We looked at numbers and we were able to confidently say that we were able to confidently say that we were able to house a team with coaching,” she tells My Cochrane Now Dot Com, “and the facility (Tim Horton Event Centre) had game nights available, so we were able to re-establish it.”

The Chargers have a full roster of 20 players supplemented by U16 players from the area as affiliates.

“As we know with U18 hockey,” O’Connor observes, there’s sometimes a lot of injuries and suspensions and at this age, most kids work, so it’s kind of hard sometimes on weekdays to have a full bench.”

All home games for the U18 Chargers will be on Thursday nights at 7:30. Their home opener for the regular season is on the 22nd of this month against the Iroquois Falls Stingers.
