Traditional meet the candidates event planned for Iroquois Falls

A handful of Iroquois Falls women who want more than an open house format for a meet the municipal election candidates event are organizing a traditional question-and-answer format. It’s on Wednesday, October 7th at the Iroquois Falls Community Hall. Full details are on eventbrite.

Amanda MacLeod says candidates should have the opportunity to talk about issues in that kind of forum and why they’re the best fit for council.

The two mayoralty hopefuls are the focus of the first hour. Councillor candidates join after that.

“All the rules of the forum are also listed in the eventbrite link,” MacLeod notes, “so people are aware coming in that we have time limits for questions and we have time limits for answers and that everybody is expected to remain calm and kind.”

She says the format might raise issues that candidates and voters aren’t aware of.

“There are probably things that aren’t considered hot topics that maybe are for a lot of people of the community. Some that even I’m not aware of.”

The event runs on Wednesday evening, October 7th at the community hall on Union Street, beginning at 6:00pm. MacLeod says that date was chosen because it works for most candidates.  Some can’t attend because they’re working.

There is no reserved seating, but one section is set aside for attendees with accessibility needs. Neither is there an admission fee, but donations will help pay for the hall rental. Any surplus funds will go to Access Transit.
