Steady rain causes problems on gravel roads in Cochrane

Rain is good.  But when it’s almost relentless as we’ve experienced the past week, it can wreak havoc.

Town of Cochrane manager of infrastructure services Sam Gomez says the rain affected operations. One result is that gravel roads need re-grading.

“We had washouts on a couple of roads, too,” he reports. “We just graded some of the roads before the rain event and now we have to go and grade all the roads again.”

A lot of potholes caused by the rain need filling, too.

“It washed away all the dust suppressant that we put on these roads. So that’s another thing, Gomez adds.

There was also an overflow in the wastewater treatment plant.  Storm sewers, however, did not spill over. Gomez says their capacity is based on a once-in-ten-years rain event.  It was not exceeded.
