New primary care physician for Cochrane

It’s not until next summer, but Cochrane is getting a new primary care physician.

Dr. Martha Aigbonoga is coming from the UK and has signed a three-year contract with the town of Cochrane.

Abbigail Brennan is executive director of the Boreal Pulse Health Care Attraction Team, which recruits for Cochrane and Iroquois Falls.

She says Dr. Aigbonoga comes to the area through a connection with a recently recruited doctor for Iroquois Falls.

“We were able to begin communication with her and essentially establish and work our way through the recruitment process with her,” she states.

The doctor will take on a roster of 1,200 patients at the Family Health Team. Brennan says recruitment will continue.

“We estimate approximately 50% of the community is currently without primary care, which remains roughly two to three vacancies even beyond Dr. Martha with the need to be recruited.”

Listen to our interview with Brennan below, for more about Boreal and its track record recruiting doctors for Cochrane and Iroquois Falls.
