Timmins Police Service in the clear after investigation

The province’s police watchdog says there are no reasonable grounds to believe an officer committed an offence after an investigation into a man’s arrest at a Timmins school over four years ago.

The Special Investigations Unit says on the morning of April 11, 2022, Timmins Police were called to a disturbance in the front lobby of a school.  The SIU says a man was demanding to see his son, but was told his son didn’t want to see him and he had to leave.  Officials say officers arrived and directed the man to leave, then arrested him after he made it clear he wasn’t going anywhere.  The SIU report says after the man pulled his arm away he was brought to the ground, with a knee strike to the side.  He was later diagnosed at hospital with a rib fracture.

The SIU says part of its investigation included a video screen recording from a TikTok the man made of his arrest.  The complaint, filed two years after the incident, wasn’t dealt with right away as the issue was still before the courts.
