There’s no change in size or status of Timmins 9, the forest fire now 16 days old south of Timmins and west of Gogama. The MNR still considers it “being held”.
But fire information officer Isabelle Chenard says there are concerns surrounding a potential sighting of a drone over the fire zone on Monday.
“Drones in the airspace can directly cause incursions with aircraft that are fire fighting and carrying personnel,” Chenard notes. “So it’s very dangerous to have them out.”
Flying any aircraft over a fire zone is not only dangerous, Chenard says, it’s illegal.
Timmins 9 is being held. Chenard says there are still 13 fire crews on the job along with five helicopters. Heavy equipment teams have wrapped up their work.
