Bourgouin and Vanthof winding down northern roads tour

Two Northern Ontario New Democrat MPPs are winding up their provincial roads tour.

Mushkegowuk James Bay’s Guy Bourgouin and Timiskaming Cochrane’s John Vanthoff started on Highway 11 last week, and now are on route from Thunder Bay to Sault Ste. Marie and then Sudbury via Highway 17.

Bourgouin gave us an update on how the road conditions have been.

“We’re going to Sault Ste. Marie and we left Wawa and it was snowing at 8 o’clock. It was getting sketchy in this part where we are, and we are close to Montreal River. It is getting a little bit better, but we will see. This stretch of highway changes constantly.”

Bourgouin and Vanthof have been joined by several fellow MPPs including Sol Mamakwa and leader Marit Stiles.

Bourgouin says during a town hall event in Thunder Bay the official opposition leader heard similar stories that have been shared in many other communities.

“One-point Marit asked raised your hand if you had a scary situation on the highway 17. Every hand was risen and the person at the mic said I think she has had three or five dangerous incidents just that day.”
