Right on time for Friday’s Radiothon, the MICs group of health care services Thursday had the grand opening of a new CAT scanner at Lady Minto Hospital in Cochrane.
Among those celebrating is MICs CEO Paul Chatelain.
“This has been a long-awaited process, putting in the business case about four years ago,” he says. “It’s finally come through and with the generous support of the Marcel and Frances Labelle Foundation and of course the Cochrane Vintage Riders Club.”
There is a plaque near the scanner in tribute to the snowmobile club and the Labelle Foundation.
Chatelain says it’s “pretty well paid for”, but was also part of the goal for the radiothon as well as a patient lift and IV injector.
Chatelain says CT imaging has been a standard of care in Ontario and Canada for many years… and our area was due for one.
“It’s going to provide more timely diagnosis for our patients. It’ll actually save lives, will reduce our emergency wait times now for admitted patients because they don’t have to wait going on a transfer to Timmins, for example. It’s going to help on physician recruitment and retaining doctors, surgeons and DR technologists.”
Chatelain sums it up as a positive and a game-changer for the Cochrane area.
