Porquis contends with brief evacuation

Homes in Porquis were evacuated late Sunday morning following an incident on the rail line that runs alongside the small community. Reportedly, a tanker car was leaking propane.

Provincial police say people were moved to the local recreation centre and access to Porquis was shut down. Traffic on Hwy. 11 was undeterred.

A couple hours later, the incident was deemed resolved. People were allowed to go home and the road into the community was reopened.

In an unrelated incident, a boil water advisory was lifted in Porquis on Saturday.
