Bill C-52 Causing Concern for Northern Ontario

Leaders from northern Ontario municipalities and First Nations are speaking out against Bill C-52.

Cochrane’s Mayor Peter Politis, Hearst’s Mayor Roger Sigouin and representatives from NEOMA and FONOM are asking for amendments to the bill.

The leaders say the bill may exempt well-funded activist groups from defamation.

Cochrane’s Mayor Peter Politis says northern leaders, First Nations and industry are all for the spirit of the bill, but with changes.

The committee will continue the debate in Queen’s Park on October 1st and will also be hearing from FONOM regarding the bill during the presentations.
