Invasive species may be the last thing anglers think about before heading out onto our northern waterways this season. The MNRF says invasive species don’t just include plant life or fish; it can also take the form of bacteria. It says invasive species can hitch a ride on a boat, trailer, fishing equipment and very often within bait buckets. There are many small disjointed lakes and rivers in northern Ontario and anglers may introduce something to a habitat without even knowing. The MNRF is asking anglers and boaters not to release bait into a body of water, draining the water from your boat before setting out and removing anything visible on your boat such as algae or plants.
