The long vacant former Legion Hall on Second Ave. in Cochrane won’t likely be standing much longer, following a fire Monday morning.
Fire Chief Richard Vallée says the alarm went in at about 7:25am, when flames were observed on the roof. He says they started on the top level of the three-level structure and had jumped into the second level. An excavator was brought in to open up the building so the fire could be extinguished.
The chief says when a building is compromised like that, it can’t be left in a state dangerous to the public, so it most likely will be demolished.
He estimates it’s been vacant for about ten years.
