Cochrane in 2005: The question of continued use of fluoride in municipal water

In Cochrane history this week, a question in April, 2005: Why is there still fluoride in the town’s tap water?

Town councillor Claude Bourassa was asked that question by the health unit, which noted that Cochrane was the only community in the district to continue to use fluoride.

It had reduced it by 60%, and Bourassa said it was finally time to remove the substance that reduces tooth decay but is believed to cause certain health problems.

No councillors objected to the idea, so it was anticipated that a resolution to that effect would pass easily.

Also in the April 15th, 2005 issue of the Times-Post, local 13-year-old snowcross racer Dave Joanis was bumped up to compete in the 14-15 bracket. The national organization for snowcross racing said Joanis had what it takes to compete with older, more seasoned racers.

Thanks, as always, to the Cochrane Public Library for the use of its archives.
