Cochrane history: A medallist in Special Olympics

We’re talking about a champion is this week’s Cochrane history feature.

In 1985, Louise Erdelyi came home from the International Special Olympics with one gold and one silver medal in cross-country skiing. The games were held in Park City, Utah.

In the April 3rd issue of the Northland Post, 20-year-old Erdelyi said she was so happy at the medal presentation, she cried.

While in Park City, she shared a condominium room with Nicole Ferguson of Timmins, who brought home a bronze medal and a fourth-place finish in downhill skiing.

Erdelyi’s gold medal was for 300 metres, the silver in one kilometre.
