Business leader welcomes construction of hydro line from Timmins to Wawa

The president of the largest business organization in the District of Cochrane welcomes this week’s announcement that Hydro One will be part of a consortium building a new electrical transmission line to Wawa from Timmins.

Tom Faught of the Timmins Chamber of Commerce says building the 260-kilometre line is good economic news for communities along the route and in our district.

He says the provincial government sees the potential for the area, with a projected 28% to 30% increased demand for power in the next ten years.

“It shows good faith on their part as well,” he adds.  “It shows that they’re prosperous in our area and they believe that we’re going to be growing significantly in the next little while.”

Hydro One is part of a consortium constructing the line, along with the Wabun Tribal Council and its five member First Nations. Faught says that shows great commitment and faith in reconciliation.
