Once the revived Northlander passenger rail service returns parallel to the Highway 11 corridor in 2026, there should be no fear it will disappear again.
Ontario transportation minister Prabmeet Sakaria, speaking in Timmins today, made a connection to the growing importance of critical minerals being mined in the North. He calls that an economic engine for the entire province.
“This will become even more important for us to build better transit options and commuting options to the North,” he added. “So this will be here forever.”
Sarkaria unveiled the exterior design of the train and updated construction and renovation projects along the rail line between Cochrane and Toronto.
