The rescue of a man from a house fire by two other men is the topic of this week’s Cochrane history feature.
The front page of the November 12th, 1994 issue of the Cochrane Times outlined Fire Chief Dan Gauthier’s recommendation to town council that Gord Mason and volunteer firefighter Ken Prevost (PREE-voh) be honoured as heroes.
On October 14th, Mason’s neighbour came running, telling him of a grease fire on her stove, and that her husband was in the house.
When Mason arrived at the house, Prevost was already there. Chief Gauthier said he had no doubt that they saved the husband’s life.
Mayor David Hughes promised the town would prepare the appropriate recognition and advance their names to the proper authority.
