Cochrane history: Lack of support for millennium winter carnival

Plans for a bigger than usual Cochrane Winter Carnival to celebrate the new millennium hit a bit of a snag, and a newspaper report from November 5th,  1999 is the basis of our weekly history feature.

The Cochrane Times, in a front page article, says Carnival 2000 committee chair Peter Konopelky resigned amid frustration about community and corporate support.

He said only a few organizations and individuals responded to a cry from the committee to host events.

Konopelky had high hopes of a carnival to be remembered for years to come.  However, committee member Phil Hayes told the Times that a carnival would go ahead.
