‘I think there’s zero chance’ Municipal Rd. will be a gravel road: Timmins MPP George Pirie

The Conservative MPP for Timmins says the threat to turn Municipal Road into a gravel road is “overdone”.

“I think there’s zero chance that that’s going to happen,” George Pirie remarks

Part of that road that was downloaded 25 years ago is in Iroquois Falls – not part of Pirie’s riding. The rest is in rural Timmins. He says rebuilding the road that connects Highways 11 and 67 is estimated to cost $12-million for Iroquois Falls and $10-million for Timmins.

Pirie says it’s a question of how the municipalities spend their infrastructure dollars every year.

“Whether it’s five years with two million or one project with ten million. There’s always new money every budget year.”

Vista Radio News asked him if it’s possible that the province would kick in part of the 22-million dollars.

“This is a municipal responsibility,” he reiterated. “I think that the province always listens to the municipalities The province is always willing to listen, for sure.”

Pirie points out that Queen’s Park has already spent half-a-billion dollars in Timmins in the two years since he became MPP. That includes $76-million for connecting link reconstruction.
