Extra, unexpected fee on ROTR tickets being refunded by Eventbrite

A lot of people who went to Rock on the River music festival this past summer will be getting some money back from the Eventbrite online ticket platform.

Timmins Festival and Events Committee chairman John Olaveson says they were inadvertently charged extra.

“We found out a little bit too late, after about a thousand tickets were sold,” he says.  “There’s obviously fees that go along with Eventbrite, but this was an additional fee. So once we found out, we put the kibosh to it.”

He adds that once TFEC started getting feedback about the high fees, it started investigating..

“I have a friend that runs a similar festival down in Brantford and he has similar ticket prices. After fees, his ticket prices were a lot cheaper. So that stood out.”

Eventbrite admitted the mistake and started the refund process. It’s from eight dollars to 70 dollars or more, depending on the level and number of tickets.

Olaveson says the next fundraiser for TFEC (Tee-feck) is Rocktoberfest Bingo, October 19th at the McIntyre Ballroom.  Tickets are on sale… through Eventbrite.
