A tradition on Oil Tank Rd. in Iroquois Falls might be about to experience its final Halloween, unless several volunteers step forward to help Teri Kirkman operate her two acres of hand sculpted creatures and other scary offerings.
Over the past decade, it has entertained and frightened between 500 and 700 people over two days. But Kirkman’s volunteer force has dwindled to five people, and she says she’s not physically able anymore to keep up her end of the work.
She says her Extravaganza operates for two days the weekend before Halloween.
“It’s the 26th and 27th from one ‘til eight both days,” she says. “We usually have Friday afternoon open for private bookings. Usually the schools call, things like that.”
“Putting everything up takes three days, just to put things out, and it takes another three to five days to take everything down. So a lot of help is needed the last week of Halloween.”
High schoolers can pick up community service hours helping out.
A lot more details and a couple funny anecdotes from Teri Kirkman are in the audio of our interview posted below.
