The September 17th, 1999 issue of the Cochrane Times featured a lot of positive news from that week’s council meeting, and we feature it in this week’s look at local history.
Council approved spending $220-thousand to buy the MTO garage, and entered into an agreement with the Public Utilities Commission to put a new call centre in part of it.
Rent for the first year would be a dollar. The call centre was expected to create 65 jobs.
Council also approved hiring CGV Builders to build the new library on Fourth Ave.
At almost $700-thousand, it was about $200-thousand over budget. Coun. Angelo Anselmo explained that it was because a basement was incorporated into the plan, rather than a concrete slab.
And 20 years of working on a new town dump was finally coming to an end. B&F Contractors got the contract to establish a landfill site in Fournier Twp.
