Historical society wants to commemorate death 50 years ago of Tim Horton

It has been 50 years since the death of NHL player and Cochrane native Tim Horton. The Greater Cochrane Historical Society wants to mark it with a plaque.

“He died in February, 1974, as the result of an automobile accident,” historical society secretary Dawn Monroe reminds us.

The organization’s looking for a place to put the plaque.  Two possibilities are the Tim Horton Events Centre and the Board of Trade office on the highway, near the Chimo polar bear statue.

Monroe says the province charges $6,500 for one of the familiar blue historical plaques, but it doesn’t have to be one of them.

The society has already written up a Tim Horton bio that Monroe says will probably be posted in the barber shop in the Heritage Village at the Cochrane Polar Bear Habitat.
