Gala June 8th celebrates 20 years of the Cochrane Polar Bear Habitat

Cochrane’s most popular year-round tourist attraction is celebrating a milestone year.

The Cochrane Polar Bear Habitat opened in June, 2004. Manager Amy Baxendell says a number of events are planned to mark those 20 years.  Among them is the first fundraising gala since the pandemic.  This time, it’s onsite at the Habitat, under big tents.

Baxendell says it will be a cocktail-and-appetizer evening, with live music, on Saturday, June 8th.

“We’re going to have a silent auction and some displays with some memorabilia from the past, so people can take a bit of a walk down Memory Lane and have a look at all the achievements that we’ve made over the last year,” she outlines.

Yyou can get your $100 ticket at the Habitat, or on its website.

“We’re aiming to sell about 100 tickets,” says Baxendell. “So we do encourage people to buy them now so they don’t miss out. It’s going to be a great night for everyone, and we’re really looking forward to seeing everyone and connecting and celebrating such a milestone for us.”

Of course, the polar bears are always roaming around their compound, so you’ll have a chance to see them.
