Cochrane history: Grocery prices in June, 1970

In local history this week, we go back to June, 1970 and what we were paying for groceries in Cochrane.

An ad in the Northland Post of June 11th, 1970 had a heading of “Feature values this week” at C. Fasano Food Market.

E.D. Smith tomato ketchup, eleven ounce bottles, two for 39¢; Rise ‘N Shine apple crystals, seven packs for $1.00,  and Florida sweet ripe watermelon, good size each, $1.09.

Moving over to the corner of Fifth Street and 14th Avenue, and Sisco Groceries.

The  advertised items included a pack of 12 Schneider’s Red Hot wieners for 59¢, and sausage – we can only assume it’s the famous Sisco sausage, 65¢ a pound.”

Thanks to the Cochrane Public Library for its ongoing support of our history feature.
