Don’t call the Iroquois Falls Storm a simple transplant from Cochrane.
The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League team will play its first season at the Jus Jordan Arena, beginning in September.
Team owner Tom Nickolau also owned the Cochrane Crunch. He acknowledges that in 2022-23, that team only won seven games. He pledges that the Storm will be different.
“We have about 85% turnover (from the final Crunch team),” he emphasizes. “We’re bringing new blood in, better hockey players, just changing the whole culture of this. This is new, this is exciting and I believe we will do well this year.”
Nickolau says he’s hard at work this summer, working to put a good product on the ice, and entertainment off the ice.
“We want this to be an entertainment area where you come to a game, you’re entertained. So we have a few things planned. When the time comes, it’ll be unveiled.”
The Kirkland Lake Gold Miners are the Storm’s opposition for a home exhibition game on August 26th, and the regular season opener on September 8th.
