Three new forest fires have popped up in our region. Two of them are located about 65 km northeast of Hearst near McLeister Lake (McLee-ster). Natural Resources Ministry fire information officer Evan Lizotte says fire crews are currently working on the area.
“There is currently two CL13 water bombers and a lead birddog aircraft that are on scene,” he said. “That currently is not under control.”
That second Hearst fire is less than one hectare and is currently under control.
A third is located 120 kilometres north of Smooth Rock Falls…20 kilometres from the nearest hydro dam and not causing a threat to anyone.
“Cochrane 39 is 700 hectares and like you mentioned north of Smooth Rock Falls,” he said. “And currently all we can say is that it’s being observed.”
