Worldwide audience for I.F. telethon

The 40th annual Christmas Telethon for the Bill Harkins-Eugene Ricard Santa Claus Fund in Iroquois Falls used its latest format on Saturday night, the third time it’s been livestreamed on the web.

The event, featuring mostly performances from past live telethons staged in school gyms and the community auditorium, raised about $5,800 in pledges for the cause.  Among the pledges were some from Dartmouth NS, Bradford, Windsor and Schreiber ON, Philadelphia, PA, and for the second year in a row, one from Australia. Traditionally, the total at the end of the  evening is often supplemented by stragglers and large donors.

The money is used to help needy families in the Falls enjoy Christmas with all the trimmings.  There’s also a reserve fund that’s available all year long in case of house fires or other disasters and times of need that afflict local families.
