Cochrane history: Newspaper ads in 1930

We’re letting our eyes wander away from news stories this week, as we look at Cochrane history.

Public library archivist Ardis Proulx-Chedore has uncovered some interesting ads from 1930 editions of the Northland Post, like this movie ad form the Empire Theatre in May that year:

“The spectacle of the ages! Dolores Costello in Noah’s Ark, with George O’Brien, a Warner Brothers Vitaphone Talking Picture!”

There’s also an ad for Northern Ontario Dry ginger ale, manufactured exclusively by David’s Bottling Works, Phone 333 in Cochrane.

And this: “From the Corner Drug Store on Railway Street, opposite the station, for winter coughs and colds: Wampole’s Preparation of Cod Liver Oil, one dollar; and Buckley’s Bronchitis Mixture, 40 cents and 75 cents.”

That’s an extremely small sample of what you can find in the archives at the Cochrane Library, any Thursday afternoon.
