Crunch holds information sessions for prospective billet families

The Cochrane Crunch is looking for homes to billet players from the junior hockey team next season. To that end, it’s holding two information sessions next Tuesday, May 31st at the Tim Horton Event Centre.

Marketing and communications officer Gina Nickolau talks about the commitment of being a billet home.

“I like to look at it as their home away from home,” she says. “And they are mostly responsible for providing the players with a safe place to live, a room, and provide them with three meals a day.”

Nickolau knows about billeting from doing it herself, and having her son live with a billet family.

“A lot of people do it because they just like to open up their home and give back to their own community, and they have no interest in hockey whatsoever. And others do it because of hockey as well. They have the kids who live with them and so they aspire to have the older players act as big brothers.”

The first of Tuesday’s info sessions starts at 6:00pm, the second at 7:30pm.
