Poppy sales begin in Iroquois Falls, Val Gagné and Matheson on Friday, and run until Remembrance Day, November 11th.
Royal Canadian Branch 70 Iroquois Falls president Don Beagan says that for the second year in a row, Legionnaires and Air Cadets won’t be out with the boxes, in respect of the Porcupine Health Unit’s COVID-19 restrictions.
“And I haven’t heard from them yet,” the president adds. “Until I do, we’re going to stay the course and we’re going to do similar to what we did last year, and put poppy boxes in the different locations.”
Beagan says doing it that way last year cut into the proceeds a bit, but nothing serious. That money goes to services for veterans.
Meanwhile, there will be a public Remembrance Day service at the cenotaph in Iroquois Falls this November 11th.
Beagan says, however, that COVID-19 restrictions such as masks and physical distancing will be in effect.
“Next year, we hope to be right back to normal,” he says hopefully. “If everybody behaves themselves and gets vaccinated, we’re looking for next year.”
