Mural project celebrates Cochrane Tel’s 100th anniversary

What is currently a blank 40-by-40-foot wall will soon be a mural depicting 100 years of Cochrane Tel.

Office manager Roxanne DesRoches says it’s in the utility’s courtyard and is actually the outside wall of Butch’s Bowling.

“The actual anniversary took place in January,” DesRoches points out. “However, given COVID and the delays, we’ve decided to have our celebration on August 20th.”

Submissions are being accepted on the Cochrane Tel website for the mural.

“What we’re proposing to do,” DesRoches explains, “is to divide it up into three sections and have three separate artists provide a rendering of what they believe the history of Cochrane is, the history of the utility as well as what Cochrane is all about.”

Each of the artists will receive $1,000.  The utility will provide scaffolding and take care of safety measures.

The successful artists will be announced at the centennial celebration on August 20th. Desroches hopes the mural is completed before the snow flies.
