Iroquois Falls artist publishes Polaroid photos of Venice as an e-book

Old tech and new tech meet at several points, with Iroquois Falls artist Alana Pierini’s first e-book.

“The Venice Polaroids” is what she calls a photo essay on the city of Venice, in the form of Polaroid instant photos.

Pierini says she’s been working with Polaroids since 1984. Naturally, they’re fuzzy and poor quality, so she uses her i-phone to take the actual photos.

“So I get the accuracy with my i-phone and then I use a device called The Lab to turn them into Polaroids,” she explains. “And once they come out, I work on them again on the surface.”

Pierini is surprised at the interest in Polaroid photography.

“I didn’t realize that there was a cult thing, you know, especially in Europe. There seems to be a lot of interest in Polaroids and so I was surprised by that, because I was interested in it myself, having a lot of fun, right?”

Past Iroquois Falls resident Emma Coté works for Kobo, and suggested that Pierini publish The Venice Polaroids as an e-book.  It’s now available on Kobo and Kindle.
