They did it. Team Cadence made it to Thunder Bay.
Nineteen residents of the retirement home in Cochrane, four staff members and three dogs walked a total of 2,510 kilometres in what they call “Steptember”.
That’s the equivalent of walking from Cochrane to Toronto, and then Cochrane to the Lakehead.
Facility manager Tina Turner says a celebration of that achievement is set for Thursday.
“We have some special surprises for the participants and something very special coming from government officials,” she previews.
Turner mentions that it wasn’t a fundraising activity. It was an initiative to encourage physical fitness and overall wellbeing for the residents of the retirement home.
“Also to show everyone that despite being in the midst of the world pandemic,” she adds, “we can still rally together and show our team spirit.”
Team Cadence plans to keep walking. In January, they’ll reveal details of a cross-Canada walk.
