If I.F. experience is any indication, Cochrane library need not worry

There’s nothing to worry about when the Cochrane Public Library puts the “public” back into its name next week.  With limited hours and various COVID-19 safety measures in place, it will open to patrons for the first time in six months.

The library in Iroquois Falls has been open since July 28th.  CEO Diane Gagnon says hours are limited to 10:30 until 3:30 Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and there’s no computer access. But all the other services are available.

What started at two patrons inside at a time, Gagnon says, was quickly upped to five.

“Because patrons are aware of what’s going on,” she observes. “So you know, they don’t want to get it (COVID-19), we don’t want to get it, so everyone’s complying with the rules.”

For those who still aren’t comfortable going into the library, curbside pick-up is still available.

“We work with gloves and we put the book outside between the two doors and they come in and they pick up their book and they’re on their way,” Gagnon says. “So we have no contact with them and they like it and I’m happy about that.”

Gagnon adds that the library also offers resources for home schooling.  Just call with your list, and staff will prepare the books.
