Here’s a chance for your high school student in Iroquois Falls to log some volunteer hours.
Next month, Access Transit will be decorating Tim Hortons smile cookies. Then Tim’s will sell them, with every cent from sales going to the bus service for the elderly and people with mobility issues.
Secretary-bus treasurer Suzanne Castonguay has posted on Facebook, recruiting helpers for evenings the week of September 14th to 20th.
“A lot of the students have Facebook,” she notes, “they might call me themselves, because we have a bunch of shifts that we can give them at night and they could qualify for those hours for school.”
If a smile is worth a dollar, Access Transit has picked up 24,000 smiles over the last three years, from the cookies.
And this year, for volunteers, COVID-19 safety protocols will be in place.
“Oh, for sure, for sure. It’s stricter than ever,” says Castonguay. “The masks, the gloves, they take our temperature when we walk in, they ask us questions, we have to keep the distance, we have to work only in the kitchen. Oh yeah, it’s very, very safe.”
