Iroquois Falls woman celebrates renewed fitness by running a half marathon

Sylvie Gamble believes that it doesn’t matter how heavy or out of shape you are, you can get into shape and run.

She knows.

After dropping about 40 pounds and getting in shape, she ran a half-marathon earlier this month, from her home on Devonshire Avenue in Iroquois Falls to Porquis and back.

Her first half marathon was ten years ago when she was in college and weighed almost 200 pounds.  She says the biggest difference she felt this time was in lung power.

“After running 20 km, I could still breathe,” Gamble notes, “while ten years ago, took me an hour before I could almost catch my breath again.”

Gamble’s husband and two sons – aged four and three – met her at the halfway mark for a brief cheerfest.

“My husband handed me a Gatorade, told me I was doing good, so I actually walked for two steps, then I literally ran the entire way home” she says.

Her goal was two hours and 15 minutes.  She smashed that by eight minutes.
