The Commando Lake Bridge has now been removed.
The Town of Cochrane is working on replacing the iconic bridge with a more up to date one. Town council says the new bridge will be made of hemlock, which is a much stronger wood. It says it will also be a slightly different design so the arch complys with accessibility codes. Council says the new arch will be lower so it is not yet known if kayaks or canoes will be able to fit under the bridge.
The project is being worked on by Deep Construction. The new bridge is expected to take six weeks to fabricate and 10 days to install.
