26 people are facing charges for a major drug trafficking operation.
The OPP, Timmins Police Service and Nishnawbe-Aski Police teamed up in November after the Mushkegowuk Tribal Council prompted a state of emergency in the northeastern coastal communities caused by a pandemic of illegal drugs and alcohol growing in the region.
Police say during the investigation officers seized methamphetamine, fentanyl patches, heroin, cocaine, hydromorphone, Percocet and marijuana worth more than $400,000. Officers say they also seized $82,000 cash.
Police say 26 people were charged in March and April with four being identified as primary participants including:
54-year-old Toronto man:
- Possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking
- Possession of a controlled substance
- Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000
 39-year-old Sudbury man:
- Possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking
42-year-old Toronto woman:
- Possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking
- Possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking
- Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000
33-year-old Timmins man:
- Two counts of Possession for the purpose of trafficking
- Possession of a controlled schedule 2 – the purpose of trafficking (Section 5(2) CDSA)
- Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000
- Possession of ammunition contrary to prohibition order
Three of the accused have been released on bail with the fourth still in custody.
