Passenger Train Heading to Cochrane Derails

Update (May 31st 8:22am):

All passengers on the derailed Polar Bear Express passenger train have been taken to Moosonee.

Ontario Northland says five cars of the 11 car train derailed yesterday evening as it was heading from Moosonee to Cochrane.  The train was carrying 73 passengers and seven crew members. Ontario Northland says some minor injuries have been reported, but nothing major.

OPP and rail personnel are currently on-site. Ontario Northland says its passenger services team is working with all passengers who have been impacted.

 

Original Post (May 30th):

A passenger train heading to Cochrane has derailed.

Ontario Northland says at about 5:40pm, the Polar Bear Express passenger train heading to Cochrane derailed about 24 miles south of Moosonee. The train was carrying 73 passengers and seven crew members. Ontario Northland says some minor injuries have been reported, but nothing major.

Ontario Northland says at this point it is focused on moving the people that were on the train to Cochrane. There is no word yet as to when service will return to normal. The company says crews will continue cleaning up the train over the next few days.
