Cochrane’s new mascot has arrived at the Airport and is being prepared for installation this June. The massive carved polar bear was transported by truck from British Columbia and is being stored in the town hanger. The massive statue was accompanied by a smaller version — the prototype — that will eventually be on display in the center of Cochrane’s roundabout at 3rd Avenue and Railway Street. Board of trade member Jamie Mageau said this about the project:
Local artist Dan Richie, who now lives in BC, created both statues at a cost of about $40,000 not including shipping costs.
