(MLB) The Boston Red Sox beat the Toronto Blue jays 10-7 last night to avoid the series sweep. Jose Bautista, Darwin Barney and Teoscar(tee-oscar) Hernandez homered for the Blue Jays. Hernandez has eight since he was called up on Sept. 1, a franchise record for rookies in the month. In other action the Chicago Cubs clinched their second consecutive National League Central title with a 5-1 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals.
(NHL) The Toronto Maple Leafs got past the Montreal Canadiens 4-2 last night in preseason action. Elsewhere Winnipeg beat Ottawa 5-3 and Edmonton shut out Carolina 4-0.
(Soccer) New York City FC defeated the Montreal Impact 1-0 in MLS action last night. Montreal is four points out of a playoff spot with three games remaining. And the Seattle Sounders beat the Western Conference-leading Vancouver Whitecaps 3-0.
