Bisson Says Province’s Blueprint For Group And Foster Care Doesn’t Properly Address Northern Issues

Ontario has announced its plans for improving its struggling group and foster care.

Minister of Child and Youth Services Michael Coteau announced this Wednesday the province’s blueprint for the legislative reforms that he earlier promised back in December of 2016 will help improve the lives of children.

Timmins-James Bay MPP Gilles Bisson says the blueprint is a good step, but within it the issues of the North are still not properly addressed.

Bisson says there is very little support within the James Bay communities when it comes to mental health services and child protection.

The blueprint for reforming the province of Ontario’s troubled group home and foster-care system promises to increase oversight of children, to ensure youth have a say in how they are cared for and also calls for a major boost in the quality of services.

The plan laid out by the government is to reach the level in which all children and youth are deemed safe by 2025.
