OPP Warns E-Bike Users To Follow Rules Of The Road

If you are planning to enjoy a trip on an electric bike this summer, know the rules.

The OPP would like to remind all drivers of electric bikes and mobility scooters in Cochrane that there are rules that they must abide by if they choose to travel on the roadways.

Police are reminding e-bike drivers that you must be a minimum of 16 years of age, as well as any passengers and always wearing an approved bicycle or motorcycle helmet when driving.

Officers ask that there be no modifications made to the motor to exceed a speed greater than 32 kilometers an hour.

The OPP say to operate your e-bike on the road, please remain in the right lane and to the right side of the road as close to the curb as possible while you travel with traffic.

Police also ask that you do not operate an e-bike if your driver’s license is suspended, or if you are intoxicated as you will be charged.
