Vanthof Says 25-year Transportation Draft Strategy Is Opposite Of What North Needs

The draft 25-year strategy for transportation in Northern Ontario is the opposite of what we need.

That is according to Timiskaming-Cochrane MPP John Vanthof, who says while there are some good ideas in the draft, the things mentioned are the opposite of what the province needs at this time.

Vanthof says the goals of the draft are to reinvigorate passenger rail service, and establish a network of inter-community passenger bus services in the North.

He says what the plan really should be focused upon is trying to improve things for right now, stating that the longer it takes to put things into action the farther behind the North will become to its Southern counterparts.

The 25-year draft strategy is focused on addressing challenges across road, air, rail and marine travel and further improving, strengthening and building upon the current system.

Feedback is being collected through a questionnaire until September 15th, and for more details, you can go here.
