As forest fires continue to wreak havoc out West, the focus on preventing them close to home has been increased.

Kapuskasing‘s Manager of Protective Services and Fire Chief Pat Kennedy says the town has a well-prepared plan in place to handle a possible forest fire outcome.

Kennedy says the town has agreements with other fire departments and the Ministry of Natural Resources to help in such a situation.

As for measures you can take if you are ever caught in a forest fire, Kennedy says most importantly is to get to safety.
