FAKE MONEY CIRCULATING IN THE NORTH

The James Bay OPP says even in northeastern Ontario counterfeit money could be in circulation.

The Bank of Canada and the R-C-M-P have been cracking down in the province as the problem has grown.

Police say counterfeit cash can often make its way into rural communities as fraudsters may be leaving larger urban centres to spend it.

If you do suspect you’re carrying counterfeit cash or come across one working a till the OPP says to call them or bring it to the closest station.

Police say it’s also possible the person holding the bank note may not even know it’s fake if they’ve been the victim of a crime.
