(NHL)  The Montreal Canadiens made the first big splash of the NHL off-season trading defenceman Mikhail Sergachev, the club’s first-round pick last year, and conditional picks to Tampa bay for Jonathan Drouin.  The Habs and Drouin then agreed to a six-year, $33 million contract. In other news Phil Housley was named the head coach of the Buffalo Sabres, Housley has spent the past four years as an assistant coach with the Nashville Predators.

(US Open)  Rickie Fowler shot a seven-under 65 and finished with a one-shot lead after the first round of the U.S. Open yesterday. Canadian Adam Hadwin tied an Open record by making six straight birdies in his round and sits three shots back.

(CFL)  Last night in CFL pre-season action the Montreal Alouettes downed the Ottawa Redblacks 38-5, and out west the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the Edmonton Eskimos played to a 38-38 tie.
